The JLR is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. WHO WE ARE The Junior League of Rochester, Inc. (JLR) reaches out to women of all races, religions, and national origins, who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism. It is part of the Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. (AJLI), which includes nearly 300 Leagues in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and England. We currently have 70 active members,200 sustaining members, and new members are welcomed every year. FOCUS The JLR is committed to providing resources and programs to improve the lives of those who live in the Rochester area. The JLR believes by concentrating our volunteer efforts we can increase the impact in our local community. Our focus is “Empowering and nurturing today’s girls with life skills.” The JLR believes all young women should have access to the tools necessary for a bright future. The JLR will positively impact the lives of the girls, through innovative programs focusing on self-esteem, nutrition, leadership and mentoring. Strength comes from nurturing the mind, body and spirit. The goal of the JLR is to give girls an all encompassing experience which helps them reach their potential and lay a healthy foundation for their future. WHAT WE DO GIRLSrock!... Cookbooks such as "Applehood & Motherpie" and "For Goodness Taste", and the annual Holiday Market Public Affairs... Raising awareness before the State Legislature about the Junior League’s mission and the issues that are important to our community Our activities are supported exclusively by membership dues and fundraising events. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. We train, volunteer, lead, teach, network, raise funds, make new friends, learn, and most importantly make an impact in our own community. Over the past 77 years we have returned more than $1.5 million and 2 million volunteer hours to over 200 agencies in Rochester and surrounding communities.
